As a Personal Branding Photographer, I thought it would be great to discuss some of the fundamentals of branding, in order to help fellow small business owners.

What is a Brand?

Let’s start right from the beginning.

"A brand is the identity and story of a company that makes it stand out from competitors that sell similar products or services." - Hubspot 2023

In the simplest terms - it’s the personality of your business.

Here’s a few things to consider for your own business that will make your branding memorable!

Target audience

You need to know who this is so you know who you’re communicating to!

And the more specific you can get with this the better.

No-one wants luke-warm clients that never buy from you. You want ride or dies that are obsessed with everything you put out.

Brand story

Why do you do what you do?

How did you get there?

What are your businesses mission and values?

Answering all of these questions and communicating them to your audience is key in connecting with your audience on a deeper level.

Brand voice

The language you use can really change the way your brand is perceived.

If you’re a high end brand, use professional language!

Likewise if you want to come across as more laid-back, use language to suit this.

Brand Visuals

This is your logo, colour palette, typography and photos!

A part of this is utilising professional photography to elevate your imagery and provide a cohesive look amongst all of your marketing material.

This combined with the other visual elements is key in presenting your business in a beautiful and aligned way.

An important thing to remember is that your brand is always evolving!

So whilst it’s great to figure these things out early it will also change as your business does.

So don’t stress if it’s not perfect straight away.
